Target marketing-- Learn from this young man

A young boy was wanting to get a little extra money to buy a bike.  He went down to the local newspaper and was given a list of potential customers.  Over time he found out that there were only two types of people who were in the newspaper.  One was newly married couples and the other was people who had just moved into a new home.  He asked around and found out that the best way to contact more of the same people was through the court house.  Later that day he and some friends went to the courthouse and got a list of people. By the end of the summer he was making more money then some of his school teachers.

What are the Lessons to be Learned?

He paid attention to which customers were buying.

Then he networked with other people to find out where he could get similar prospects.  I think that this is really important.  A lot of people get into the idea that they already know everything they know about in a particular field of work. Show me the person who is open to learn every day and I will show you a person who is in the top 5 per cent in their field.

He leveraged his friends to grow his business.  When he grows up and builds other businesses he will find out he can do the same type of thing with his employee's rather than his friends.

Do not over look this post as something that some kid did.  This is one of the most fundamentally sound stories I have heard on how ANY business should be ran. What do you think?  Please leave a comment.
